The Flying Raven Studios origin story
Wow, I cannot believe it has already been over a year on this roller coaster. So many ups….. And so, so many downs…..
As all the best plans tend to do, Flying Raven Studios was born after a conversation with a great friend of mine around the BBQ.
As the smoke from the BBQ swirled, my friend Ben and I had been chatting about painting models (as you do).
Ben has been building, painting, and playing tabletop game models for years. Whereas I had comparatively only just gotten back into the hobby after what seemed like a lifetime. All possible now the kids are a little bit older and are getting into models themselves.
The difference between us, was that while Ben had grown up painting Warhammer, Necromunda, D&D, etc. I had grown up making scale models of aircraft and tanks which seems to have seriously influenced my painting style when I branched back into Warhammer (also after what seemed like a lifetime).
During that conversation, with the smoke from the BBQ swirling around us, it was crazy how broad the modeling hobby was. There was just so much out there… So many techniques and different bits of kit to try out.
What also blew our minds was that one product from one “modeling discipline” was so much cheaper than a similar product from another.
So later, sitting around Ben’s kitchen table we decided that exploration of what was out there would be the focus of our channel. From that smokey beginning, Flying Raven Studios was born.
