Cameras

Cannon G16

  • My first content creator camera!

  • Image sensor size: 1/1.7 inches.

  • Easy to use

  • It has an internal mic, but no audio in capability so you will need to record audio seperately

Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5

  • Compact, Mirrorless

  • Photo Sensor Size Micro Four Thirds

  • Loads of functionality with crispy images and video

  • Steep learning curve if its your first DSLR

Microphones

Microphone: SYNCO Mic-M2S

  • Size

This shotgun microphone is tiny for easy transport and can easily fit to the shoe mount on a DSLR camera

  • Sound Quality

As a shotgun mic, it is pretty good at cutting out background noise for a nice audio recording (especially for this price bracket). However, it does need to be directly in front of the speaker for the best results. Also, it has a rubber shock mount and wind muff to minimize unwanted vibration and wind noise,

  • Compatability

A 3.5mm TRS and a TRRS cable are included. This means that it will plug into most devices with a 3.5mm input such as DSLR cameras, camcorders, recorders, smart phones, laptops etc

  • Function

While it is powered by an internal AAA battery which means that this mic can be fitted to any cold shoe mount. However, the on / off switch does not have a "click" and the only indication that it is on or off is a very small and faint LED. This has resulted in me running out of battery before a shoot as I had accidently left it powered on when in storage. This LED changes colour when the "low cut filter / noise suppression mode" is activated.

Stands, Tripods and Attachments

11 inch Magic Monitor Arm + Large Super Clamp

  • Size

Ideal for clamping a small camera to a desk, or your microphone to the tripod to get the shotgun mic that bit closer to your mouth while maintaining the frame for the camera

  • Weight limits

Unable to support the weight of a 2Kg DSLR. But perfect for anything lighter

  • Compatability

Has both a screw thread for a microphone of small camera, as well as a cold shoe mount

Flexible Arm, ULANZI LS08 Overhead Camera Mount, Desk Camera Stand 3 Section Pole

  • Size

Able to adjust for most angles and gives you the height for a decent field of view for the camera

  • Weight limits

The weight limit is stated as 1Kg for the horizontal mount. Can just about support a DSLR with care

  • Compatability

Has a screw thread for a microphone of DSLR.

Neewer Portable 56 inches/142 centimeters Aluminum Camera Tripod

  • Size

I only gave this a "X" rating as it is not quite tall enough for the camera to be at eye level when I am standing. But apart from that, it is great.

  • Quality

Sturdy and quality build, but still fairly lightweight.

  • Compatability

Has a screw thread on a separate platform for a DSLR. This then fits securely to the tripod via a friction lock. Very handy and avoids you from having to spin your expensive camera onto a static screw thread.

Lighting

GODOX SL100Bi

  • Noise

This is a powerful light and the fan needs to work hard to keep it cool. This background noise can be picked up by your microphone.

  • Light stand not included

However, it does come with a Bowen mount, which will fit most light stands

  • Quality

Sturdy and quality build, but still fairly lightweight, even for a light like this

  • Capable of being extreemly bright

  • Fully adjustable

You can adjust both the brightness as well as the colour temperature from "daylight" to a very warm light

  • Remote control capable

You can control a light, or a suite of lights from an App on your phone

  • 11 lighting effects inbuilt

Softbox Photography Lighting Kit 50x70cm

  • A lot cheaper than most lighting kits

  • Fully adjustable

You can adjust both the height of the stand as well as the angle of the softbox to get the light where you want it
